ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women’s soccer team stayed hot on Saturday after earning another shutout win against Blackburn by the score of 10-0.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team stayed hot on Saturday after earning another shutout win against Blackburn by the score of 10-0.
Fontbonne (7-8; 4-1 SLIAC), dominated from start-to-finish as they outshot the Beavers 48-1. Meredith Wendt and Kayla Collie scored two goals each. Maddie Tague, Daniele Caruso, Casey Linsenbardt, Maddie Redohl, Linsey Klein and Emily Cardwell all scored one goal. In net, the duo of Mary Beers and Taylor Skaggs combined for the shutout victory.
In the first half, it didn't take long for Fontbonne to score early-and-often. Wendt struck first at 9:29 from six yards out to make it 1-0.
Then, three minutes later, Tague received a pass from Ellen Weaver and she scored from 20 yards out to push the advantage out to 2-0. The scoring frenzy continued two minutes later.
The Griffins got a corner-kick and Jacey Pate passed it off to Caruso whose shot from inside the box went off the far post and in. Less than a minute later, Wendt received a great through pass from Anna Whitaker and she did the rest scoring her 12th on the year, extending the lead out to 4-0.
Fontbonne added one more goal in the 32nd minute as Linsenbardt got the ball inside the box and she beat the Beavers net-minder on the far post, giving the Griffins a commanding 5-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the team didn't miss a beat with Collie scoring twice in the 54th and 62nd minutes, while Redohl (73'), Klein (78') and Cardwell (79') scored to make it a 10-0 final.
The team returns to action next Wednesday in another tough SLIAC showdown on the road against Westminster. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
