Griffins Fall In Its Season Opener Against Willamette
SALEM, Ore. – The Fontbonne University women’s soccer team traveled to Oregon to kick-off its 2018 season. However, the Willamette Bearcats played spoiler for Fontbonne with the 4-0 win.

SALEM, Ore. – The Fontbonne University women's soccer team traveled to Oregon to kick-off its 2018 season. However, the Willamette Bearcats played spoiler for Fontbonne with the 4-0 win.
Fontbonne (0-1), finished with six shots as Molly Kovarik and Kayla Collie tied with two each. Mary Beers made nine saves in the outing.
The Bearcats (1-0), ended with 25 shots and they were led by Shanna Keil's two-goal and six shot performance. Sydney Wilson and Emma Blackburn added the other goals. In net, Kristen Barclay picked up the win with four saves in the first half.
In the first half, the Bearcats got on the board in the 21st minute as Wilson scored an unassisted goal. Prior the end of the frame, Blackburn scored off an assist from Hannah Deighton, extending the lead out to 2-0. Kovarik had a chance for goal with a shot in the 38th minute, though Barclay came away with the save.
The Bearcats tacked on two more goals in the second half securing the two-goal win.
Fontbonne will have a day off tomorrow before returning to the pitch on Sunday against Lewis & Clark. Kick-off at 2 p.m.
