Women's Soccer Makes It Four Shutout Wins In A Row; Bass Nets Her Fifth On The Season
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women’s soccer team continued its winning ways on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over Greenville.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's soccer team continued its winning ways on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over Greenville.
The Griffins (6-5-1; 3-0 SLIAC), have now won four in a row all by shutout. This evening, the Griffins controlled the game throughout in the possession and shot departments. Fontbonne outshot Greenville 13-3.
Rebecca Bass, meanwhile, netted her fifth on the season. In net, Makayla Hussong picked up her third win on the year and now has a goals against average of 1.57.
Coming into tonight's game, the Panthers (9-4; 2-1 SLIAC) had 47 goals and were putting up 19.2 shots per game. Against the Griffins, the Panthers never got much going with zero shots in the first and collected three in the final frame. In goal, Marjory Coates concluded with five saves.
In the first, the Griffins didn't wait long to get on the board. Caroline Neal passed a through ball for Bass and she beat Coates on the short-side for the 1-0 lead.
Fontbonne had a chance at 29:23 to make it a 2-0 game, though Daniele Caruso's shot went off the cross bar.
In the second half, the Panthers picked up its intensity on offense. Dani Pearce had consecutive shot attempts in the 59th and 63rd minute, though Hussong was there to make the two saves. The Griffins outshot Greenville 3-0 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Fontbonne will now head on the road next week starting with a trip to Spalding on Tuesday. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
