Head Coach Dylan Cassidy and Molly Kovarik Win Back-To-Back Coach and Player of the Year Honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team and the Griffins had 10 selectees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team and the Griffins had 10 selectees.
Head Coach Dylan Cassidy won back-to-back Coach of the Year. Molly Kovarik won her second straight SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year award and was named to the First Team.
She was joined on the First Team by Caroline Neal and Alexandria Smith. Krystal Kohenskey, Caitlyn Smith, Kierstyn Weaver, Claire Dalton, and Mary Beers were named to the Second Team. Libby Bateman earned Third Team, while Katie Leeker was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Coach Cassidy becomes the first in program history to win consecutive Coach of the Year awards. He's just the fourth coach in SLIAC history to win back-to-back Coach of the Year.
Kovarik, a Festus, Mo., native, also is the first player in program history to win back-to-back Player of the Year. She's the sixth player in the SLIAC history to win the award in consecutive seasons.
Kovarik's had a standout 2021 season totaling a career-high 23 goals and four assists for 50 points. She became the all-time leader at Fontbonne with 59 career goals, to go along with her 13 assists for 131 points placing her second all-time.
Neal, a Wentzville, Mo., native is named to the All-Conference Team for the third straight season and it marks the first time she's been named to the First Team. The senior has posted double-digit goals for the second time in her career totaling 10 and adding three assists for 23 points.
Smith also is named to the First Team for the first time in her career and it marks the second straight season being named to the All-Conference squad. The Springfield, Ill., native, has a career-high two goals and three assists this season. She's also part of the defensive group that's allowed just 13 goals this year.
Kohenskey, a Troy, Mo., native, is back on the All-Conference Team for the second straight year. She's tied her career-high at Fontbonne with seven goals and added a career-high 14 assists for 28 points. She's currently third in career assists and 10th in points.
Smith, a Fenton, Mo., native, is on her second straight All-Conference Team after posting three goals and a career-high five assists for 11 points.
Weaver, a Florissant, Mo., native, makes it three straight seasons on the All-Conference Team as she's posted four goals and five assists for 14 points. In her career, she's scored 22 goals and added 21 assists for 65 points placing her tied for ninth in goals, tied for fifth in assists, and eighth in points at Fontbonne.
Dalton, a Florissant, Mo., native, tallied one goal and three assists thus far placing her on the All-Conference Team for the second straight year.
Beers, a St. Louis, Mo., native, has had another standout season putting her on the All-Conference Team for the second straight year.
She's totaled 10 shutouts and has a mere 0.70 goals against average. She's also set a career-high with 14 victories. Beers became the all-time leader at Fontbonne with 22 career shutouts in the regular season finale against Greenville.
Bateman, a Glen Carbon, Ill., native, earns her first All-Conference award after totaling one goal and one assist this year.
Leeker, meanwhile, finished with two goals and two assists in her first season with the Griffins.
