Griffins Drop Its First Spring Match Against Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's tennis team got its spring season underway against Blackburn on Tuesday, however, the Beavers came away with the 5-4 win.

In doubles action, the Griffins started out well with Mariana Rogers and Jordan Sampson picking up an 8-0 win at the No. 1 slot. The Beavers went on to win the No. 2 doubles 8-2 over Becky Kottmeyer and Morgan Murphy, along with winning by forfeit at No. 3.

In singles play, Rogers continued her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Gariel Pierce. Jordan Sampson followed with an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win over Bonny Eyer at No. 2.

The momentum carried over to Morgan Murphy as she defeated Sophie Netemeyer, 6-4, 6-4. However, the Beavers went on to win No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0 and No. 5 and No. 6 singles play for the win.
