St. Louis- Day two proved hopeful for Fontbone at the Augustana College Volleyball Tournament as the Griffins hoped to build on their team chemistry.
Fontbonne first fell to St. Ambrose College (9-25, 14-25, 23-25) before falling to Loras College (21-25, 11-25, 13-25). The Griffins rough start to the 2013 season gives them a 0-4 record.
Freshman Emily Weaver led the Griffins offensively once again, placing eight kills against St. Ambrose for the highest kill percentage. Senior Taryn Ballmann added six kills for the offense and a team high 10 digs. Sophomore Mandy DeWitt contributed with 12 assists.
Fontbonne continued to struggle into their second match. Against the Loras attacking Duhawks, Ballmann led the offense while DeWitt engineered the defense.
Over the weekend, Weaver, Ballmann, and senior Abbie Bergtholdt contributed with 20+ kills. Defensively, DeWitt and Ballmann led the team with 30+ digs. Ballmann served up six aces while freshman Lynsey Wehrenberg and DeWitt set up 68 points. They recorded 49 and 37 assists respectively.
