Griffins Fall in First Home SLIAC Contest
St. Louis- Women's volleyball had a tough time against Greenville Panther Corinne Coon. Coon recorded 15 kills in the Griffins' three-set loss to the Panthers, the majority uncontested. Also a huge offensive threat was Nicole Schaeffer who also recorded double-digit kills (12).
The Griffins (3-6 overall and 1-2 in SLIAC play) fell 25-17, 25-10 and 25-19. The beginning of the first set was close with the game tied at 6 apiece. Then Greenville started to pull ahead with a 19-9 lead. It was too much for Fontbonne to rally back.
Fontbonne saw their struggles continue into the second set and fell 25-10.
The third set looked to be about the same with Greenville leading 11-4. Then the Griffin attack told hold and Fontbonne pulled within two, still trailling 15-13. A few minutes later both teams were tied at 17. Greenville would go on a 7-2 run to end the match.
Rachel Barnes and Lynsey Wehrenberg paved the defense for Fontbonne with 13 and 11 digs respectively. Both teams only recorded one solo block and eight block assists for team total blocks of five apiece.
Fontbonne stays at home this Thursday, September 26 for a 7pm match against SLIAC foe MacMurray College.
