Women's Volleyball falls in home opener
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's volleyball was seeking their first victory of the season, preferring to do so tonight at home against the St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP) Eutectics.
After leading 14-10 during the first set, STLCOP tied the game at 18 apiece. Tied at 21, the Eutectics ended the set on a four-point streak. The Griffins found themselves at an 0-4 deficit after beginning round two, but tied the game 8-8. The two teams would be tied three more times before STLCOP won with a 25-21 score once again.
Third set woes set in for Fontbonne after trailing 7-8. The Eutectics went on a 12-2 run to lead 19-10. Fontbonne found themselves trailing by 10 with STLCOP just two points from winning the match. Maddie Stadler served up two aces on the Griffins five-point streak, but ran out of time as STLCOP ended with the 25-19 win.
The Griffins struggled at the net and moving their feet on defense. Kersten McDonough's 12 kills and Stadler's 15 digs were team highs. In all, Fontbonne out-blocked STLCOP 7-4. The Griffins tallied four solo blocks on the evening.
Fontbonne travels to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend for the Rhodes College Invite. The Griffins are slated to play Lyons and Centenary on Saturday and host Rhodes on Sunday. Live stat links are available on our schedule page.
