Women's Volleyball can't fight off Highlanders
Highland, Ill. - Fontbonne women's volleyball fell to the MacMurray College Highlanders tonight in four sets, bringing their season totals to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Fontbonne fell 26-28 in set one. The Griffins led by scores of 9-4 and 15-9 during set two, but succumbed 25-27 in another close matchup. Fontbonne won their third set after pulling an early 7-2 lead, eventually taking the decisive 25-17 win. MacMurray won the final close set 26-24.
The Griffins totaled 46 kills as MacMurray held a slight 48 kill advantage, but MacMurray held the upper hand defensively at the net with 12 block assists and one solo block while the Griffins totaled 7 block assists and two solo blocks.
Kersten McDonough's 19 kills were a game-high. Emily Merick was second in the game adding 14 kills of her own. Maddie Stadler's 24 digs was a game-high as well. Three other Griffins recorded double-digit digs including Krista Beyer (18) and Mandy DeWitt and Lynsey Wehrenberg both added 10 digs each. DeWitt and Wehrenberg recorded 17 and 19 assists respectively.
Fontbonne served up eight aces, three more than MacMurray.
The Griffins host a SLIAC quad this Saturday as they take on Spalding at 11am and Westminster at 1pm on the Lee McKinney Court.
