Griffins split on season-opening day
Women's volleyball defeated Harris Stowe in straight sets but fell to Robert Morris Springfield in five. The Griffins are 1-1 to start the season. Pictured is Lynsey Wehrenberg who tallied seven aces, the same number she's worn for her career as a Griffin.

St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's volleyball started off with a sweep of Harris Stowe (25-16, 25-21 and 25-21). They kept rolling in game two against Robert Morris University of Springfield with victories in sets one (25-23) and two (25-22), but errors caused the Griffins their first loss of the season.
Fontbonne held the upper hand in the third set against Robert Morris-Springfield 24-21, but the Eagles posted five straight points to keep the Griffins from earning their second sweep of the night. The Eagles then took set four 25-21 and set five 15-11, even after being down 10-5.
Kersten McDonough totaled 22 digs and 34 kills on the evening, including 23 against RMU Springfield alone. Kristina Eason and Megan McKenzie each totaled 17 on the night while Lynsey Wehrenberg recorded 55 assists, 19 digs and seven aces. Six of her aces came against Harris Stowe. Alli Brown came up big at the net with five block assists while Holly Richter secured the lone solo block for Fontbonne.
Fontbonne is on the road at Lincoln Christian next Tuesday and doesn't return home until September 13 to face off against MacMurray at 7 p.m.
