Fulton, Mo. - Fontbonne women's volleyball opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with two five-set losses to Westminster and Iowa Wesleyan. The Griffins fought back from an 0-2 deficit against Westminster to force fifth-set action and won the fourth set against Iowa Wesleyan in an effort to earn their first conference win.
Kersten McDonough led the Griffins with 21 kills against Westminster and 18 kills against Iowa Wesleyan. Holly Richter led the team in hitting percentage as well as blocks. She tallied three solo blocks and five block assists. Mariana Rogers totaled 39 digs on the defensive side of the game while setter Lynsey Wehrenberg contributed with 31. She also assisted 52 times and Bailey Benes recorded 35 assists.
Fontbonne falls to 2-4 on the season and return home Tuesday, Sept. 13 to host MacMurray College at 7 p.m.
