Griffins suffer 3-0 loss to Principia
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne women's volleyball were defeated by the Principia College Panthers in a SLIAC matchup tonight. The Griffins fell 17-25, 20-25 and 23-25 and are now 3-5 on the season. Fontbonne has a tough rest of the week ahead as they travel to Westminster on Thursday and then come back to Big Bend to take on Webster and Greenville at Webster's quad on Saturday, Sept. 24th.
Fontbonne struggled with hitting, especially early on as they only tallied six kills in the first set and finished the game with a .132 hitting percentage.
Kersten McDonough led Fontbonne with 11 kills while Alli Brown once again led the team in accuracy with four kills on nine attempts.
After suffering losses in the first two sets, the Griffins switched up their rotation, keeping Lynsey Wehrenberg as the only setter and allocating Bailey Benes as a right-side hitter. The switch worked for a while as the two teams were tied 16 times during the third set alone. The Griffins trailed 22-20 but tied the game 23-23 before Principia closed out the sweep on a Griffin serving error and a kill by Devon Marunde.
Sophia Hathoway led the game with 15 kills while Emily Tippets led Principia with a .412 hitting percentage on 10 kills.
For Fontbonne senior libero Mariana Rogers recorded 16 digs. Wehrenberg led the Griffins with 24 assists while scooping up 11 digs.
