Griffins sweep Blackburn; turn focus to weekend
St. Louis, Mo. - Griffins sweep Blackburn 3-0 as they look ahead to a tough two games Saturday. With the win, Fontbonne is now 4-7 in conference and will host MacMurray College and Spalding University on Saturday, October 15th at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in a SLIAC quad match.
Fontbonne dominated the first two sets with 25-14 and 25-16 wins. Blackburn didn't give up and with a tied 26-26 score, both teams scrapped together for a 46-touch rally with Fontbonne coming up with the lead. The Griffins then closed out the sweep on a kill from middle hitter Holly Richter.
Kersten McDonough secured 18 kills for the second night in a row while Alli Brown notched a .467 hitting percentage. As a team, the Griffins served up nine aces with McDonough, Kristina Eason and Mariana Rogers serving two apiece.
Fontbonne will prepare for Saturday as they need to win in order to keep conference tournament hopes alive. MacMurray is 2-8 in conference while Spalding has shaken up the top half of the standings and sit at 7-4. Previously the Griffins swept MacMurray and defeated Spalding in five sets.
