Griffins sweep final SLIAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors
McDonough and Brown sweep SLIAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week
St. Louis, Mo. - This week is the final women's volleyball St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week announcement and the Griffins have swept the competition as Fontbonne went 2-1 in conference last week.
Fontbonne senior Kersten McDonough was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year. Fellow senior Alli Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
McDonough averaged 4.25 kills per set last week as the Griffins went 3-1 on the week. She recorded a team-leading 68 kills and 61 digs while averaging .264 at the net. She also served up seven aces. McDonough recorded a season-high 27 kills against Webster while hitting .442 in the win. McDonough needs just three kills to own the all-time career kills record at Fontbonne.
Brown averaged 1.44 blocks per set with a team-leading 23 on the week. She recorded four solo blocks and 19 block assists. She recorded eight block assists alone in the Griffins 3-1 win over Illinois College and three solo blocks against Eureka before finishing that game with seven total blocks. Brown now has 82 block assists on the year, and looks to take the single season record.
Currently, teammate Holly Richter has 81 block assists, both of whom have surpassed the old record of 69 block assists in one season. The new record will be decided Wednesday in Fontbonne's final game of the season when they travel to Iowa Wesleyan with first-serve slated for 7 p.m.
