Women's Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets Against Eureka

EUREKA, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team dropped a tough straight set (14-25, 19-25, 24-26) match against Eureka on Wednesday night.
FBU (8-15; 6-10 SLIAC), finished with 28 kills, 51 digs and 10 block assists on the night. Kristina Eason led with a team-high 11 kills and .226 hitting percentage. Megan Schaller, meanwhile, filled up the stat sheet once again with 12 assists and a team-high 13 digs, while Megan McKenzie added 12 digs of her own.
Eureka (7-15; 6-9 SLIAC), totaled 39 kills and a .211 hitting percentage. Anna Crank stood out with her match-high 13 kills and .407 hitting percentage. Sara Worrell led them in the assist department with 18, while McKenna Cleer added 16 digs.
In the first set, Fontbonne opened with an 11-9 lead on a kill from McKenzie. However, from then on the Red Devils were in control, closing out the set on a 16-3 run to take it 25-14.
In the second, Eureka rolled out to an 8-2 lead on a set error by the Griffins. FBU stayed within striking distance at 18-13 after a Red Devils attack error but the Red Devils fended off Fontbonne the rest of way, winning 25-19.
In the third set, the Griffins this time around took a 10-5 lead on Victoria Curtice's kill. The team continued to play well as the set wore on as a kill from Abby Grumich put them on top 20-15.
FBU went on a 4-0 run and were a point away from forcing a fourth set. Eureka though ended any type of hope for the Griffins to continue the match as they rattled off an 11-0 run, winning the set 26-24.
The Griffins will look to bounce back on the road Friday against Greenville. First-serve goes up at 7 p.m.
