Women's Volleyball Drops A Non-Conference Match Against St. Mary-Woods
St. Mary of the Woods, Ind.—The Fontbonne University women’s volleyball team took a non-conference visit to St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday and it was the Pomeroys coming away with the four-set (21-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-25) win.

The Griffins (3-11), totaled 35 kills but committed 31 errors for a .032 hitting percentage. Megan McKenzie led with nine kills and a .158 hitting percentage. Victoria Curtice and Kristina Eason had seven each.
Abby Grumich led them in the set department with 17, while Sarah Borgerding collected a match-high 16 digs.
St. Mary-Woods (10-12), ended the afternoon with a .219 hitting percentage and came away with 10 solo blocks on the defensive side of the net.
Offensively, McKenzi Kumpf finished with a match-high 14 kills for a .342 hitting percentage. Setter Katelyn Cotter dished out a match-high 39 assists, while Pamela Dorman and Kelcie Basan added 13 digs a piece.
In the first set, the Griffins opened with a 10-4 lead on a Pomeroys attack error. However, St. Mary-Woods answered back with a 7-0 run to take its first lead at 11-10.
Later, a kill from McKenzie tied it up at 15-15. The Pomeroys went on to collect the next two points and despite the Griffins cutting it down to a 22-21 outing on Curtice's kill, the Pomeroys hung on for the 25-21 win.
In the second, it was SMWC this time around taking a 10-5 lead after a bad set by Fontbonne. They maintained its marginal lead up until a kill from Emma Seiz tied the set at 20-20. The Pomeroys, though gathered themselves and took the final five points for the 25-20 victory.
It was all square at 13-13 in the third, but the Griffins went on a 5-0 run with Maura Rabun at the service line to put the Griffins ahead, 18-13. The team never looked back and cruised to the 25-17 win. It was the best set by Fontbonne on the day with 11 kills on 28 attempts for a .179 hitting percentage.
In the fourth, the Pomeroys opened with a 15-9 lead on a kill from Gabriella Slagle. They rattled off a 9-2 run and fended off Fontbonne for the 25-15 set and match win.
The Griffins return home next Monday for a showdown against MacMurray. First-service is set for 7 p.m.
