Women's Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Outing Against Greenville

The Griffins (9-15; 8-10 SLIAC), posted 46 kills but had 32 errors for a .097 hitting percentage. The team got it done at the net with a season-high 18 block assists.
Kristina Eason led them offensively with 12 kills, seven digs, and four block assists. Victoria Curtice finished with nine kills, while Karsyn Kulick and Maura Rabun tied with seven each.
Megan Schaller recorded her eighth double-double with 21 assists and a team-high 13 digs. Emma Seiz, meanwhile, totaled a season-high six block assists.
The Panthers (21-9; 16-2 SLIAC), totaled 58 kills and a .209 hitting percentage. Abby Freeman finished with a match-high 30 kills and a .275 hitting percentage on 69 total attack attempts. Abby Quinn handed out 48 assists, while Allyson Grabowski ended the evening with 17 digs.
Things started out well for the Griffins in the first set as Kulick gave them a 10-6 lead on a kill. Later, the Griffins led 23-21, but a kill from Freeman and an attack error tied it up. However, Rabun followed with a kill and Daisy Watkins capped it off with a service ace for the 25-23 win.
In the second, a 6-0 run by the Panthers gave them a 10-4 lead over Fontbonne. The Griffins got it down to 19-13 on Eason's kill, though Greenville picked up the final six points for the 25-13 win.
The story flipped in the third with Fontbonne taking a commanding 10-2 lead on Schaller's service ace. Things continued to look good for the Griffins as a block assist by Eason and Seiz had the Griffins in control at 21-9.
The Panthers rattled off an 8-0 run to make it 24-20 after being down 24-12, but Rabun ended the comeback attempt with a kill to give Fontbonne a 25-20 victory.
After back-and-forth play throughout the fourth, the Griffins grabbed an 18-17 advantage on Eason's kill. The team inched closer to a possible win on Rabun's solo block to give them a 23-21 lead.
Greenville kept on battling and finished the set off with a 4-0 run, winning 25-23 to force a fifth and final set.
A block assist by Eason and McKenzie tied it up early at 3-3. However, it was all Greenville the rest of the way, closing out the set on a 12-5 run for the 15-5 set and match win.
The Griffins close out its season on Tuesday night in front of the home crowd against St. Mary-of-the-Woods. First-service goes up at 6 p.m., on Senior Night.
