Women's Volleyball Tied For Fourth In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2019 Women’s Volleyball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are tied at No. 4.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2019 Women's Volleyball Preseason Poll and the Griffins are tied at No. 4.
Greenville, the reigning SLIAC Champion, and Webster both tied for first overall with 76 points and four first-place votes. Westminster followed in third with 66 points, while Principia and Fontbonne tied with 50 points each.
The Griffins concluded the 2018 campaign 9-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play. The team will be looking to replace the likes of Victoria Curtice, Sarah Borgerding, Megan McKenzie, and Kristina Eason.
Maura Rabun, who's back for her senior season, finished her first year with Fontbonne totaling 208 kills, a .261 hitting percentage, and 80 blocks, which placed her on the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team.
The team also returns seniors Megan Schaller and Emma Seiz. Schaller, a Freeburg, Ill., native, will be looking to build off her 417 assists and 195 digs. Seiz, meanwhile, finished with 98 kills, while setting new career-high marks in hitting percentage (.187) and blocks (62).
The Griffins will get its 2019 season underway at WashU next weekend for the Bear Invite. On Friday, the team takes on host WashU at 3 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m., contest against rival Webster. On Saturday, they'll face North Park at 10:30 a.m., and finish out against Cornell College at 12:30 p.m.
