Grumich And Schaller Reach Milestones At Westminster
FULTON, Mo.— The Fontbonne University women’s volleyball teams fell in straight sets against Westminster and Webster today. Abby Grumich and Megan Schaller each hit a milestone with Grumich earning her 1,000 career assist, while Schaller became the fourth women’s volleyball player all-time to account for 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs in her career.

How It Happened
After trailing early in the first set, the Griffins met-up with the Blue Jays at 12-12 on an attack error. From there, a kill from Rae Andrews, a solo block from Jessica Molden, and a kill from Molden gave them the 15-13 advantage.
Westminster went on to regain the lead, 18-17, on a Fontbonne attack error. Despite the Griffins efforts late, the Blue Jays fended them off for the 25-21 win.
In the second set, the Blue Jays opened with an 11-6 lead. Fontbonne crawled back into it and trailed by two, 14-12, on Megan Schaller's service ace. The Blue Jays, though went on a 4-0 run to take the 18-12 lead.
Later in the set, a kill from Andrews made it a 24-21 contest, however, the Blue Jays finished the set off on a Fontbonne service error for the 25-21 victory.
In third, a block assist from Molden and Emma Seiz put Fontbonne down 9-6. Westminster expanded its lead out to 15-6 as kills from Sarah Rivers and Haley Menke capped off the 6-0 run. It was all Blue Jays the rest of the way going on for the 25-16 set and match win.
Inside The Numbers
- Fontbonne finished with 28 kills and a .110 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, they came away with 51 digs, two solo blocks, and four block assists.
- The Blue Jays concluded with 48 kills and a .262 hitting percentage.
- They ended with 68 digs and eight block assists at the net.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Andrews earned her ninth double-double with a match-high 15 kills and 10 digs. She also finished with a team-high .325 hitting percentage.
- Abby Grumich dished out 24 assists which gives her 1,020 in her career. She became the eighth Griffin all-time to reach 1,000 assists.
- Defensively, Schaller led with 13 digs. Taylor Jackson tied Andrews with 10.
Westminster Leaders
- Eryka Wanyonyi led with 12 kills, a .207 hitting percentage, and 15 digs.
- Ashley Kistaitis contributed 10 kills and 10 digs of her own.
- Setter Teresa Becker handed out a match-high 37 assists.
- Erica Schrader collected a match-high 18 digs.

How It Happened
In the first set, the Gorloks opened with a 13-5 lead on Kylie Burke's kill. Fontbonne cut it down to 16-13 on a bad set, however, that'd be as close as they'd get with the Gorloks going on for the 25-19 win.
In the second set, the Gorloks gained some breathing room, 12-7, on a blocking error by the Griffins. Later, a Webster attack error put Fontbonne down just 18-16, However, the Gorloks closed out the set on a 7-0 run for the 25-16 win.
In the third, the Griffins trailed 9-5 early, but went on a 6-0 run as back-to-back kills from Taylor Jackson gave them the 11-9 lead. The Gorloks, though retook the lead and owned a 19-14 advantage. Consecutive kills from Rabun and Andrews made it a 19-16 contest, however, the Gorloks finished the set and match off on a 6-0 run for the 25-16 set and match win.
Inside The Numbers
- Fontbonne ended with 27 kills and a .052 hitting percentage.
- They committed 11 reception errors and eight service errors.
- Webster finished with 34 kills and a .165 hitting percentage.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Andrews led offensively with eight kills and 12 digs.
- Jackson added seven kills and seven digs, while Rabun contributed six.
- Olivia Tallo returned to the starting lineup to finish with five kills and five digs.
- Jessica Molden dished out 18 assists.
- Schaller led defensively with a team-high 15 digs. She earned her 1,000th career dig in the first set. She joins Rachel Schwoeppe, Jodi Hentscher, and Lynsey Wehrenberg as the lone women's volleyball players to reach 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs in career.
Webster Leaders
- Samantha Kruse and Lauren Borik totaled 11 kills each. Borik had a match-high .625 hitting percentage.
- Jenna Rodriguez ended with 12 assists.
- Kristen Farrah led the defense with a match-high 21 digs.
Up Next
The Griffins return home for the final time in 2019 on Tuesday when they'll take on Blackburn. Prior to the contest, the team will honor its seniors Andrea Wiele, Megan Schaller, Maura Rabun, and Emma Seiz. First-service at 7 p.m.
