Griffins improve during first meet of the season
St. Louis, Mo. - It was a gorgeous evening for a cross country opening meet in Forest Park tonight as the Griffins participated in Washington University Gabby Reuveni Early Bird Meet.
Each returner submitted a personal best as Fontbonne's three freshmen got an eye for collegiate competition.
Senior Jennie Stare led the Griffins in the 4k with a time of 19:46.4, a 10-second personal best from last year's time at the same meet.
Sarah Rhoads and Katie and Colleen Gosser ran as a pack for much of the race with Rhoads finishing with a time of 20:50.1 while Katie narrowly edged Colleen by 14 seconds. Sophomore Jayla Jones ran over three minutes faster than last year's Gabby Reuveni race.
Chris Graham ran in his first-ever collegiate 6k, finishing with a time of 27:45.0.
The Griffins are on the road for the rest of the season and will train for two weeks before competing in the National Catholic Invite, hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. on Sept. 16th.
