Men's Soccer Falls Against Wisconsin-Whitewater

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team hosted the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks on Sunday afternoon and it was the Warhawks coming away with the 3-0 win.

Fontbonne (3-5), compiled 10 shots and were led by Blake Smugala's four. In net, Drew Blair made a career-high seven saves.

UW-Whitewater (4-3-1), got back over the .500 mark thanks to a two-goal performance from Hozai Ceballos. Jack Wirth added the other. In goal, Toney Anderson picked up the victory after posting three saves.

In the first, the Griffins had a chance to take the early lead as Brendan Kopff had a shot at goal, but his attempt went wide left.

Then, at 23:23, a foul was called on the Griffins. Ceballos sent the ball in and Wirth headed it past Blair to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.

A little over two minutes later, the Warhawks extended its lead. Jalen Holley had the ball outside the box and he sent a perfect through ball for Ceballos who scored his fourth on the season, extending the advantage out to 2-0.

Fontbonne followed with four straight shot attempts over the next five minutes, though Anderson came away with a couple of saves to keep it 2-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Warhawks pushed its lead out to 3-0 just three minutes in. Holley sent the ball inside the box for Kyle Clancy and his shot was saved by Blair. However, the ball was still loose and Ceballos tipped it in for his second of the game.

That proved to be enough with Wisconsin-Whitewater having a 14-2 shot advantage in the second half for the three-goal win.

Fontbonne looks to bounce back on Tuesday night at home against Rose-Hulman. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
