Bio

Charlie Franz was a three-sport standout at Fontbonne excelling at soccer, baseball and bowling.

In soccer, Charlie was a shutdown defender often marking the opponent’s top attacker. During his four years on the Fontbonne men’s soccer team, Charlie earned all-conference honors three years. Charlie earned honorable mention all-conference honors his freshman year, second-team honors his junior year and first-team honors his senior year. During his junior and senior season, Charlie’s team won conference back-to-back and appeared in the NCAA Tournament both years. His team finished a combined 32-6-5 overall and 26-1-3 during those two years.

In baseball, Charlie was a good fielding shortstop and smart leadoff hitter. Charlie earned all-conference honors all four years as a baseball player. He earned First-Team honors as a freshman and Second-Team honors his sophomore, junior and senior year. Charlie led his team in runs scored his sophomore, junior and senior years. He also led the team in stolen bases his freshman and senior year. During his four years, Charlie batted .336 as a freshman, .356 as a sophomore, .353 as a junior and .314 as a senior.

During Charlie’s sophomore season, Fontbonne won the SLIAC and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. His team finished with a 25-11 overall record and a 17-3 SLIAC record.

During Charlie’s senior season, he was instrumental in helping build the men’s and women’s bowling program. He competed during his senior year and later moved on to be the team’s head coach.
