Bio

Lee McKinney came to Fontbonne in 1988 and was hired as the first athletic director of the University. Coach, as he's better known as, served as Fontbonne's athletic director from 1988 to 2010. Coach oversaw Fontbonne joining the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)in 1991, which they still are a member of. The SLIAC recently honored him by naming its service award The Lee McKinney Distinguished Service Award. He guided the University from three varisty sports to nearly 20, and less than 100 student-athletes to more than 350.

In addition to being the athletic director, Coach also served as the head men's basketball coach. He has more than 325 games at Fontbonne and led his program to the NCAA Tournament four times. The basketball court in the gymnasium has been named after Coach McKinney. He served as the head men's basketball coach until 2011.

Coach McKinney passed away on April 4, 2011.
