Griffins can't escape Beavers
Carlinville, Ill. - After falling behind by 13 points just two and a half minutes into the second half, Fontbonne men's basketball took a 59-55 lead over Blackburn with 11:52 to play. The Beavers answered with 14 straight points to pull ahead once again and hold on for the win. The loss sends Fontbonne's record to 2-17, as Blackburn propels to 7-5 in conference and 10-9 overall.
Fontbonne held an eight point advantage before Blackburn took over to lead 41-33, finishing with a seven point run heading into halftime. Blackburn took the game 94-81 for Fontbonne's fifth straight loss.
For the Griffins, Jack Lake led the game with 29 points as the tall forward went 12-of-17 in the field including one three-pointer while also grabbing nine rebounds. Jeff Smith scored 12 points while Kris McCann recorded 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting.The Griffins out-rebounded Blackburn 43-32 but had a costly 23 turnovers.
Blackburn's Chris Davis netted four treys in the game on his way to 22 points as four of the five Beaver starters recorded double-digit points.
