DeLine Finishes With 28 In Loss To Bears

ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The Fontbonne University men's basketball team was held to a season-low 39.3 field goal percentage in an 83-54 loss against WashU on Tuesday.
The Griffins (4-4), were led by Luke DeLine's game-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Erich Schark came off the bench to finish with six.
The Bears (6-3), shot 56.1 percent from the floor, had a rebounding advantage of 36-31, and controlled the paint with a 54-30 advantage.
Individually, Justin Hardy led with a team-high 17 points, to go along with his seven rebounds and six assists. Jack Nolan went 6-of-15 to finish with 14 points, while Jonathan Arenas and DeVaughn Rucker contributed 11 each.
In the first half, the Bears jumped out to a 14-5 lead at the 16:14 mark on Justin Hardy's layup. Later, the Griffins stayed within reach as DeLine's 3-pointer narrowed the lead down to 27-19 with 8:48 left.
However, over the next three minutes, the Bears went on a 9-0 run to take a 36-19 lead on Hardy's fast-break dunk. The Bears held onto its double-digit lead the rest of the way and headed into the break on top, 45-28.
DeLine was on fire once again in the first going 5-of-8 and 4-of-5 from downtown to collect a game-high 16 points. The Bears, meanwhile, shot 54.1 percent and dominated the paint with a 28-12 advantage.
In the second half, a bucket from Gus Kleekamp and a 3-pointer from DeLine put the Griffins down 47-33 at 17:31. Over the next four minutes, the Bears went on another 7-0 run to expand its lead out to 54-33.
With WashU shooting 58.6 percent from the floor in the second half they were able to go on for the 29-point win.
The Griffins return to conference play this Saturday against Westminster in the SLIAC Game of the Week. Tip-off at 3 p.m.
