St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne men's soccer knocked off Greenville yesterday 2-1 to secure their third win in four games. Fontbonne improves to 3-1 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and are on the road all next week with games at Eureka on Tuesday and Blackburn on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Fontbonne jumped on the scoreboard when junior David Keeven sent a quick pass from the far sideline to the box where a sliding Alex Phillips (junior) notched the first goal of the game. The Griffins scored just 16 seconds into the second half.
Junior Nick Wolf scored his second goal of the year to give Fontbonne a 2-0 lead at the end of the 51st minute. Keeven once again assisted as Wolf chased down the ball and knocked the ball past Greenville's sliding goalkeeper Nick Holland, then jumping over Holland as the ball reached the back of the net.
Greenville and Fontbonne both kept their offensive shots coming with Greenville scoring in the 84th minute. The Panthers accessed the ball from the right post and sent the ball back to the middle of the box for the open goal.
Fontbonne secured 23 shots to Greenville's seven but failed on all six corner kick opportunity's.
Tony Pitaro picked up his third win of the season on two point-blank saves.
