St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University men's soccer defeated Principia College today 4-1. The win takes Fontbonne's overall record to 8-10-1 and a conference record of 7-2. Fontbonne's seven conference wins are the most in the last three years as the Griffins have secured the No. 3 seed in the SLIAC Tournament.
The Griffins enter the postseason after winning seven of their last eight games, with their only loss coming to No. 2 seeded and first round host Westminster College. Fontbonne travels to the Blue Jays on Thursday, November 3 to open SLIAC Tournament play.
Fontbonne seniors Austin Willenbrock and Ryan Curran connected to give the host team a 1-0 lead. Curran headed Willenbrock's throw in during the 18th minute. Willenbrock's assist ia his team-leading's fifth. He later recorded the final goal of the game in the 75th minute on a blast from 35 yards out.
Junior Ryan Dudley tallied the game winning goal on a penalty shot after sophomore Matt Rapisardo was fouled inside the box in the in the 32nd minute. Dudley then assisted fellow junior Nick Wolf's golden nugget with 42 seconds left in the first half. Dudley and Wolf both have five goals on the season.
Principia avoided the shutout in the 58th minute. Griffin goalkeeper Jordan Alberici earned his second win of the year with three saves.
