ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University men's soccer team shutout Mississippi University for Women this afternoon, 1-0. The Griffins improve to 9-5-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
"We did what we had to do today," commented Head Coach Donnie Alberty. "The afternoon matches in late October are always difficult. There is usually wind, and the sun seems to be lower, and I think that affected the atmosphere. The day seemed kind of blah, but credit to the players for playing through it. Our opponent made it difficult for us and it took a while for us to find our way."
"We picked it up a little in the second half and eventually found the goal. I am happy for Carter Youmans; he has been battling injuries most of the season and was able to be in the right place at the right time today."
In the 64th minute, Youmans found the back of the net to give the Griffins a shutout win over MUW.
Dominic Haggard played 90 minutes in between posts and recorded two saves.
"In addition, our defense of Dylan Haggard, Connor Randel, Max Sarich, Alex Wigge and Dominic Haggard in the goal played well. At this point, we will just take the 3 points and move on to Wednesday" added Alberty.
The Griffins outshot MUW, 23-5.
