Set Notes
Set 1: In the first, the Saints opened with a 15-12 lead but the Griffins eventually grabbed a 17-16 advantage forcing Maryville to take a timeout.
Out of the break, the teams were all tied at 25-25 on David Fleischer's kill. The Griffins, though got a kill from Joseph Huster and a Maryville attack error gave them the 27-25 win.
Set 2: The Griffins took a 14-10 lead in the second. From there, the Griffins never relinquished its lead going on for the 25-22 victory.
Fontbonne finished with 14 kills and a .176 hitting percentage in the second. At the net, the Griffins had four blocks giving them eight already through two sets.
Set 3: In the third, the Saints put Fontbonne an 11-5 hole and never let its foot off the gas staying alive with the 25-13 win.
Set 4: The two teams were tied 10-10, but the Saints went on a 6-1 run as Joe Nicometo's kill giving Maryville a 16-1 lead. Fontbonne got the deficit down to 24-22 on a service ace from Kyle Snook. Maryville was able to pick up the final point winning, 25-22.
Fontbonne finished with 11 kills in the fourth, to go along with its .200 hitting percentage. Maryville ended with a match-high 15 kills.
Set 5: In the fifth, the Griffins trailed 6-3 after a kill from Ryan Lively. Maryville closed out the set outscoring Fontbonne 9-4 en route to the 15-7 set and match win.
Game Notes
- The Griffins finished with 50 kills and a .132 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, the team totaled 12 blocks giving them 25 in its last two games.
