St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne softball increases their conference record to 8-0 tonight after defeating Iowa Wesleyan College 13-0 and 12-2. The Griffins are now 15-9 overall.
Game one: The Griffins scored two runs in the second, third and fifth innings and one in the sixth to lead 7-0. Fontbonne then mustered seven runs in the seventh to end the first contest against the Tigers early. Leading pitcher Madi Leonard got the start, striking out six and allowing just one walk and two hits in six innings Lindsay Schaefer struck out one batter in her lone inning on the mound.
The Griffins totaled 17 hits and 12 earned runs against the Tigers. Danni Glixman went four-for-four at the plate cross the plate three times herself while batting in a fellow Griffin. Emily Smith doubled as she too recorded three runs scored while also bringing in three Griffins and going two-for-four with a walk. Freshman Sam Brown recorded three RBI's as well with a double.
Game two: Schaefer got the start and allowed two runs for Iowa Wesleyan in the first inning. She struck out four in two innings. After the Griffins took a 7-2 lead in the third, Michelle Boyer filled in on the mound as the sophomore got three outs in a row thanks to her defense. Cassi Glixman hit her fourth home run of the season in the fifth while Madi Leonard came back in to pitch. Leonard allowed one hit in three innings with three strikeouts and zero walks or runs scored. Fontbonne scored one run in the sixth when Sam Brown hit a three-run home run to give the Griffins a 10-run lead and the early-ending win.
Brown is second on the team in home runs on the year (three). Danni Glixman went four-for-four once again as the senior was perfect on the day (8-8).
The Griffins have almost a week off and return to ABC Park on Thursday, April 9th when they host Westminster for a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
