ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The inaugural Fontbonne Sprint Football season kicked off today and the Griffins suffered a tough 7-0 loss against Quincy.
It remained a scoreless game up until near the end of the first quarter when Quincy struck first as quarterback Taylor Klusmeyer kept it himself and he rushed in from two yards out giving the Hawks a 7-0 lead after one.
In the second quarter, the Hawks looked as if they scored once more with Camden Pye finding Ethan Hentges for the 34-yard score, however, an ineligible player downfield negated the score. Two plays later, the Griffins got the ball at its own 40 after a Clayton Arrowood interception.
In the third quarter, both defenses remained stout not giving way to either offense and heading into the fourth the Hawks remained on top by a touchdown.
In the fourth, the defense for the Griffins once again came through with Donte Lewis ending a Hawks drive with an interception and taking it down to the Quincy 27-yard line.
However, the Hawks defense responded getting the ball back after a turnover on downs. Then, the Hawks were driving and got it down to the Fontbonne 44-yard line.
Taylor Klusmeyer dropped back and he was picked off by Adonis Whitney who took it down to the Quincy 11-yard line with 3:51 left. However, the Griffins fumbled inside the five and Kortez Ingrahm came away with the turnover securing the win.
