Fontbonne Sprint Football Comes Up Short In Overtime Against Crimson Wave
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University sprint football team suffered a tough 13-6 (OT) loss against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University sprint football team suffered a tough 13-6 (OT) loss against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.
It remained a scoreless game up until the 10:53 mark of the second when the Griffins took a 6-0 lead as Dylan Scruggs found Jaylen Politte down the right side for his second touchdown pass of the season.
In the second half, the Griffins had the ball on its own 15-yard line when Scruggs' pass was picked off by the Crimson Wave and returned to the Fontbonne six-yard line with 4:46 left in the third.
The Crimson Wave took advantage with Elijah Antis scoring from three yards out on third down. The point after attempt was blocked by Adonis Whitney keeping it a 6-6 game.
In the fourth, CCSJ were driving and had the ball on the Fontbonne four-yard line on fourth and one. The Crimson Wave went for it and the defense came through once again getting the stop and turning the ball over on downs.
Neither team was able to break the tie from there and it was off to overtime for the first time for Fontbonne.
In OT, the Crimson Wave got the ball first and after converting a fourth and one they took a 13-6 lead when Jonathon Flemings broke free to the outside and he snuck in past the pylon for the 14-yard score.
Fontbonne had a chance to tie, but the Crimson Wave defense came up big with a stop on fourth down for the win.
