Fontbonne Sprint Football Falls In Regular Season Finale Against St. Mary-Of-The-Woods
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University sprint football team suffered a tough 27-7 loss against St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University sprint football team suffered a tough 27-7 loss against St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday.
Fontbonne threatened early in the first quarter driving down to the Pomeroys one-yard line, however, Chris Reckel's pass was picked off in the end zone on fourth down.
St. Mary-of-the-Woods went on to strike first early in the second quarter using 12 plays for 86 yards over a six minute stretch with Brennon Landry finding Carlos Munoz from 15-yards out for the score.
Later, the Pomeroys extended its lead out to 13-0 when Landry ran in from two yards out capping off a 10 play 78-yard drive.
After a turnover on downs by Fontbonne in the second half, the Pomeroys extended its lead out to 20-0 with 1:54 left in the third after Jaheem Joseph rushed in from two yards out.
Fontbonne got on the board with 8:30 left in the fourth as Isaiah Sanders sacked Kyle Vernelson forcing a fumble. Avion Bass was there for the scoop and score trimming the deficit to 20-7. SMWC, though tacked on one final score prior to the game ending going on for the 27-7 final.
