Slew of records broken at first indoor meet of the year
Nashville, Tenn. - Fontbonne's track and field teams had a good start in their inaugural 2016 meet as six school records were broken and two more established this weekend at the Ed Temple Classic on the campus of Tennesse State University. The Griffins also recorded four personal records.
Chris Graham shattered Fontbonne's previous indoor shot put and weight throw records set in 2009. Graham threw 9.14 m in shot put and 10.09m in the weight throw. He also set a new personal record in the 55 meter dash.
Freshman Craig Niethe broke his own freshman 400m record in 55.70 seconds, two seconds faster than his December time of 57.89. Niethe also established the men's freshman and 55m hurdle top times, running 10.46 seconds in the preliminary round. Quinn Wilson also bested his freshman performance and now has the sole ownership of the current Fontbonne men's high jump record, jumping 1.70 m. Wilson set a new personal record in the high jump as well.
For the women, Gabi Cruts earned Fontbonne's top spot in the 55m dash with a time of 7.56 seconds. The previous record was from 2009. Jaylah Jones posted a personal record in shot put while Cruts ran a personal best in the 200.
The Griffins will take a limited squad to Wabash College this Saturday, January 16th and will return with both teams travelling to Illinois College January 23rd.
