Women's Track And Field Finishes In Sixth At The Mountain Laurel Twilight Invite
SEWANEE, Tenn.-- The Fontbonne University track and field teams competed tonight at the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational. The women’s team closed out in the sixth while the men didn’t register a team score.
SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Fontbonne University track and field teams competed tonight at the Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational. The women's team closed out in the sixth while the men didn't register a team score.
In the field events, Emily Bay stood out in the javelin with an impressive mark of 30.48 m which is a new personal-record. Jaylah Jones ended up in sixth at 21.40 m, while Amelia Tregoning (21.32 m), Katie Gosser (20.68 m) and Colleen Gosser (20.53 m) ended up in sixth, seventh and eighth.
Success continued over in the discus. Sierra Moore, who set a personal-record at the Billiken Invite with a toss of 35.88 m, surpassed that tonight with a new record of 35.89 m for fourth. Tregoning hit 30.94 m for ninth, while Mackenze Daniel (24.14 m) and Bay (22.04 m) closed out in 13th and 14th place respectively.
Moore led once more in the shot put at 10.64 m for fourth place. Daniel was just a few meters off her personal-record as she closed out at 10.23 m. Bay rounded out in 11th (9.23 m), while Tregoning (9.02 m) and K. Gosser (7.56 m) also competed in the event.
The group also took part in the hammer throw and Daniel smashed her previous-best with a toss of 35.56 m for seventh place. Bay (30.97 m) and Tregoning (28.58 m) each set a new personal-record in the event as well.
In the high jump, K. Gosser earned a top-five finish as she cleared 1.30 m for third. Colleen Gosser, meanwhile, competed in the pole vault and cleared 2.15 m.
In the triple jump, Jones leaped her way to a finish of 9.09 m for fifth place. She did set a new record in the long jump at 4.27 m. C. Gosser ended up at 3.75 m.
The quartet of Kayla Sheldon, C. Gosser, Bay and K. Gosser ran its way to a time of 4.51.43 in the 4x400-meter relay and that's a top-five all-time record time. In the 4x100-meter relay, the team of Sheldon, Bay, Jones and K. Gosser closed out at 56.82 for another impressive time that places them near the top of the record books.
In the 800-meter dash, Sheldon ran her way to a time of 2:44.27 for 10th place. A trio of Griffins in K. Gosser (1:22.15), C. Gosser (1:32.09) and Jones (1:33.46) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth in the 400-meter hurdles. Sarah Rhoads was the lone competitor in the 3000-meter run and she finished with a time of 14:21.97.
On the men's side, in the long jump, Hayden Yates finished in 15th at 4.39 m which is a new personal-record. In the javelin, he ended up in 12th at 18.56 m. Juwan Lee also took part in a couple events as he crossed the line with a time of 1:00.53 in the 400-meter dash.
The duo finished in 17th and 18th in the 3000-meter run as Lee closed out at 11:49.62, while Yates was right behind him at 11:52.11.
The Griffins return to action next Saturday at the mount St. Joseph Invite.
