Game Breakdown
In the first quarter, the Griffins jumped out to a commanding 13-4 lead at 6:31 on Jillian Venegas' 3-pointer. The Griffins remained in control the rest of the way closing out the quarter on a 13-7 run capped off by Rylee Stafford's 3-pointer for the 26-11 lead.
The Griffins went 9-of-18 (50.0 percent) from the field in the first and connected on six 3-pointers. Venegas dominated with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting in just six minutes of action.
Through the first five minutes of the second quarter, the Griffins stretched its lead out to 25 points (39-14) after opening with a 13-3 run.
With the offense staying hot shooting 47.4 percent from the floor in the second and its defense holding Principia to just three made shots the Griffins went into the locker room on top, 46-21.
In the third, a layup from Kya Harbour pushed the Griffins lead out to 56-26 with 5:26 remaining. At 2:06, the Griffins remained up 30 on Stafford's 3-point play. The Jackson, Mo., native, was nearly perfect in the third going 5-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from beyond-the-arc for 12 points.
It was another strong display of shooting in the third for Fontbonne going 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from the field owning a 67-42 lead going into the fourth.
In the fourth, the Griffins shot 63.6 percent from the field and held its double-digit lead the final 10:00 minutes to secure the 16-point win.
