Beyer Records Thirty-Five Digs in Tough Loss to Principia
St. Louis, Mo. - After being down two sets to none to begin the game, the Fontbonne University women's volleyball team won the next two sets, but eventually fell in a close fifth set.
During the third set, the teams were tied at six points each when the Griffins scored six straight points for a 12-6 lead and never looked back, taking the set 25-21. Fontbonne stormed out in the fourth set, scoring six unanswered points out of the gate, and held a 10-2 advantage early on. Principia came back to lead 12-11 but Fontbonne closed out the match 25-15 to force a fifth set.
Principia was up 8-5 in the third set but Fontbonne fought back to tie the set 8-8. With the Panthers winning 14-12, Fontbonne's service error would end the match.
Senior Krista Beyer kept the Griffins in the game with multiple short digs near the net. Beyer recorded 35 digs as libero, a team high on the year. Overall, both teams totaled 91 digs.
Kersten McDonough tallied 27 kills on the night, her second best of the season. Tess Rountree's 18 kills was the Panthers' high for the night. Carissa Dodge was .500 at the net and Jenny Wang closed the night hitting .308 for the Griffins.
Fontbonne will host their final game of the 2014 season on Tuesday, November 4th. The Griffins take on Webster at 7pm.
