Westminster overpowers Griffins with second-set comeback
St. Louis, Mo. - After losing the first set to Westminster College by seven points, the Griffins got off to a solid second-set, leading 20-13. Westminster mounted an incredible come-from-behind victory as they scored 12 points to Fontbonne's three to finish the set. The Griffins then fell apart in the third set. Westminster took the three-set victory 25-18, 25-23 and 25-9.
Serve receive errors hurt the Griffins the most as Fontbonne committed eight reception errors on the night. Bailey Benes was solid on the right side tonight for Fontbonne. The junior hit .333 on the night with eight kills. Kersten McDonough led Fontbonne offensively with 13 kills. Lynsey Wehrenberg tallied 14 assists and 12 digs. Mariana Rogers added six digs and five assists which included an outstanding pancake-dig in the second set.
For Westminster, middle hitter Amanda Kiso was unstoppable, putting down 12 kills on 15 attempts for a .800 hitting average on quick sets by Kayla Reeg.
Fontbonne hosts Iowa Wesleyan at 11am and Webster at 1pm on Saturday.
