McDonough moves up on all-time career kills list
Senior Kersten McDonough, after just three years on the squad, now has 1,294 kills, second among all-time Griffins for career kills.
St. Louis, Mo. - Senior Kersten McDonough had a big day as the Griffins went 1-1 as they hosted their Dig Pink SLIAC quad. Fontbonne fell to Spalding 3-1 where McDonough notched 13 kills. The third year Griffin only needed 24 on the day to become second on Fontbonne's all-time kills list. In the second matchup of the day, the Griffins took down MacMurray 3-1 where McDonough surpassed her mark after tallying 21 kills. The Pacific, Mo. native now has 1,294 kills over her three-year career with the Griffins. The current record, set by Nicole Moyer (2001-04) is 1,370 kills.
Spalding
Against Spalding, the Griffins jumped out to win set one 25-17. After a close second set, Fontbonne slumped in the third set after only accruing eight points. Spalding secured the fourth set with a 25-16 win.
MacMurray
An exciting second game followed against MacMurray. MacMurray, who had just won a five-set thriller after being down two sets came out strong. The Griffins took the first set 25-23 but the Highlanders rebounded back for a 28-26 victory to even the score. Fontbonne then won the next two evenly matched sets 25-20. The Griffins won the match on an ace by Kristina Eason.
Holly Richter recorded five blocks in the game against the Highlanders including a solo block in the middle. McDonough's 212 kills came on 47 attack attempts for a .298 average in the win but sophomore Megan McKenzie was more than efficient on the right side hitting .647 with 11 kills on 17 attempts. Eason recorded 13 kills in the game as well.
Senior libero Mariana Rogers had 22 digs in the win while Lynsey Wehrenberg and McDonough each recorded 13. Wehrenberg assisted 31 time in the contest after she notched 16 against Spalding.
The Griffins will finish out their homestand by hosting Greenville, Webster and Illinois College within the next two weeks. Fontbonne, who is 9-14 overall will take on rival Greenville in their only match this week on Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 7 p.m.
