Late run in the third not enough as Griffins fall to Panthers
St. Louis, Mo. - Women's volleyball was knocked off by top conference competitor Greenville College in three sets tonight (16-25, 19-25, 22-25). The loss lowers the Griffins to 5-9 in conference while Greenville advances to 12-2.
First set action was all Greenville as the Griffins finally reached double digits as the Panthers led 16-10. In the second set, Fontbonne yielded a four point run while senior Holly Richter served to pull within two (17-15) but the Griffins couldn't get any closer.
In the third set, play was much more even. Fontbonne led 7-6 when Greenville went on an 8-2 run, but the Griffins didn't give up. After a timeout, Fontbonne scored 13 points to Greenville's two to lead 22-16 before the Panthers finished out the set with nine consecutive points and the win.
