How It Happened
In the first set, the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to lead 14-5 on a kill from Cameron Graves and a service ace from Sebastian Roca.
The team stretched its lead out to 20-9 and went on for the 25-13 win. Fontbonne totaled 11 kills and just two errors for a match-high .391 hitting percentage. Olivet, meanwhile, had its struggles with six kills and eight errors for a negative -.080 hitting percentage.
In the second set, the Griffins started out fast once more leading 15-7 on Graves' kill. The Comets tried to stay within striking distance as a Fontbonne attack error trimmed Olivet's deficit down to 23-20, however, the Griffins finished off the set for the 25-21 victory.
In the third, an attack error by the Comets gave Fontbonne an 11-6 advantage. The team expanded that lead out to 21-13 and never looked back securing the 25-17 set and match win on Sebastian Roca's kill.
Inside The Numbers
- The Griffins ended with 37 kills and a .245 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, the team came away with 54 digs which is a season-high in a three-set match. At the net, they added 10 block assists and eight total blocks overall.
- The Comets struggled offensively with 24 kills and 26 attack errors for a negative -.019 hitting percentage.
Olivet Leaders
- Aaron Smith and Brock Pringle tied with six kills each. Pringle led defensively with 13 digs.
- Setter Aaron Girogi totaled 14 assists.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Cameron Graves led with a match-high 12 kills and .240 hitting percentage.
- Braden Woolsey added nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
- Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell registered his second straight and fifth double-double overall with 32 assists and 10 digs.
- He wasn't alone in the 10 dig department with Roca, Nate Paasch, and Zach Rothstein each reaching the mark as well.
