Women's basketball rewrites record book in 93-33 win

St. Louis, Mo. - The Griffins yielded 38 buckets in the field on 76 attempts as they defeated the Robert Morris University of Springfield Eagles 93-33, tying the all-time record for most field goals in a game set back in 2008. Fontbonne's 60-point win differential is second-most for the Griffins, just two points behind the record set in 2004. The Griffins only allowed the Eagles to score 33 points, the third fewest points allowed by an opponent, and least amount of the season. 

Two early turnovers and 10 missed shots in the first quarter had head coach Maureen Sias frustrated on the bench. The Griffins were missing easy layups but a halftime speech proved worthy as Fontbonne outscored the Eagles 30-6 in the third quarter to give them a 50-point advantage. The Griffins were on fire in those ten minutes, making 11 of 15 attempts for a 73.3% average.

Also in the third quarter is when senior Emmie Haring (Ballwin, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) notched four assists. That brought her total to five assists on the night. She needed eight to break the all-time career assists record and finished with three more in the fourth quarter. She now has 438 career assists and broke Melissa Steward's record from 2001. Fontbonne finished the game with a season-high eight treys as well as a season-high behind the arc (50%). Haring scored a season-high 22 points making seven of 12 attempts including a career-high four treys. She ended the game with eight assists, six steals and four rebounds. 

Freshman Lexi Jarvis scored a career-high 14 points as she made half of her 14 shot attempts. She made a jumper in the paint as Haring achieved the record. Sophomore Paige Black was the only other Griffin in double digits. She made five of seven shots including two three-pointers to finish with 13 poitns and four steals. Freshman Emily Bay drew two charges in the game before recording the career-high eight rebounds and eight points. She missed just one of five shot attempts.  

Fontbonne recorded 30 more rebounds than the Eagles and scored 52 points in the paint and 52 points off turnovers. 

With the win, Fontbonne edges closer to .500 with a 4-5 overall record. The Griffins travel for a big conference matchup at Greenville College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
