Women's Soccer grabs multiple postseason honors
St. Louis, Mo. - After tonight's SLIAC Tournament Championship game, the conference released the women's soccer all-conference recipients as well as the all-tournament and all-sportsmanship teams. A recap of the Griffins 2-1 loss at Webster can be found here.
This year seven Griffins received honors as well as sixth-year head coach Brian Hoener.

Brian Hoener- Coach of the Year Natalie Sipole- MF, 1st team Anna Whitaker- D, 1st team Tayler Pulvirenti- GK, 1st team Meredith Wendt- F, 2nd team Leann Smith- MF, 3rd team Heather Wiegmann- All Sportsmanship Team Pulvirenti- All Tournament Team Sipole- All Tournament Team Ellen Weaver- All Tournament TeamHoener- This is Brian Hoener's third selection as Coach of the Year in six years under the women's program and his seventh time receiving the award in the SLIAC. Hoener and his staff took the Griffins back to the SLIAC Tournament Championship for the first time in 20 years. Fontbonne's 12-win season is tied for the second highest number of wins in the history of the program.
Sipole- This is Natalie's first time being named to the first team. Last season she garnered second team accolades. This year Natalie recorded 11 assists, fourth all-time at Fontbonne for a season. Eight of those were against conference opponents, and seven came during the regular season along with one goal. In the tournament, she began the series that tied the game against Spalding.
Pulvirenti- The 2016 season is Tayler's first time being recognized to the First Team All-SLIAC. Pulvirenti saved 60 shots in net prior to the tournament, with just one conference loss. She allowed just five goals prior to the tournament and recorded five conference shutouts with a conference 0.71 goals against average. During the semifinal game against Spalding, Pulvirenti made back-to-back saves in the first overtimeto force penalty kicks. Against Webster, the senior made six saves trying to send the Griffins on to the NCAA Tournament.
Smith- Leann Smith's physical presence is a gamechanger this year for Fontbonne. The sophomore started in eight of nine conference matches as a midfielder and tallied one goal against SLIAC opponents.
Weaver- Ellen scored the Griffins' lone goal of the SLIAC Tournament Championship contest that gave Fontbonne a 1-0 lead over Webster.
Wendt- Junior transfer Meredith Wendt led the Griffins with 14 goals on the season, with nine goals and three assists coming against conference opponents including two game winning goals.
Whitaker- In Anna's first year with the Griffins, the junior transfer notched first team All-SLIAC honors, starting every game in the backfield. Whitaker led the Griffin defense to a conference-low 18 goals against.
Wiegmann- Heather stepped up this year and filled in for the Griffins on defense when Maddie Redohl went down with an injury. Wiegmann is a four year Griffin who saw seven conference starts this season.
