ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team improved to 7-7 in conference play with a sweep (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) over Spalding on Friday night. Also, Kristina Eason, tallied her 1,000th kill in the match, becoming the fourth Griffin all-time to reach the mark.
Prior to the match, the team honored Megan Schaller as she became the seventh Griffin all-time to reach 1,000 assists.

After Spalding made it 15-13 in the first set, the Griffins responded with a 3-0 run to take an 18-13 lead. The team never looked back from there and went on for the 25-18 win.
In the second, a kill and a block from Rabun, along with a solo block from Kulick put the Griffins out in front, 12-9.
Spalding answered with a 6-0 run and that forced the Griffins to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Griffins got back on track scoring the next seven points to retake a 19-15 advantage. That proved to be more than enough for the team to go on for the 25-18 win.
It was back-and-forth play throughout the third, though Fontbonne took an 18-14 lead on three straight kills from Victoria Curtice, Eason, and Rabun.
Later in the set, the team led 23-20 and Eason was able to hammer home the kill, her 1,000th in her career. Abby Grumich finished the set and the match off with an ace.
The Griffins are right back at it tomorrow morning for the Fontbonne Quad. The team opens with an 11 a.m., match against Webster. Then, at 1 p.m., they'll take on Blackburn.
