ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Head softball coach Casey Cromwell is pleased to announce the signings of Maddi Galczynski, Dylann Metheney, Mackenzie Schumacher, Grace Paez, and Sara Joines for the 2021 season.
Galczynski, a St. Louis, Mo., native, batted .482 during the 2019 fall season, leading the team in runs scored (27), singles (12), and tied for first in triples (four).
Coach Cromwell on Galczynski
"Madison is a strong outfielder, lefty hitter, and has speed. She'll steal outs and bases for us at Fontbonne and surely make an impact in our program and in the conference. She is the player you want on your team and not to play against so we're super excited she picked our program."
Matheney, a St. Louis, Mo., native, finished her fall campaign with a .250 clip and nine runs scored for the Ladue Rams.
Coach Cromwell on Metheney
"Dylann is a do anything for the team type of kid. In my conversations with Dylann it's always been, "whatever the team needs, coach" and those players are crucial to the success of the program. Dylann will help us out both offensively and defensively as she's very versatile, a strong competitor, and athlete. She's already made an impact simply in conversation and buy-in."
Schumacher, a Eureka, Mo., native, will join Fontbonne after graduating from Eureka High School.
Coach Cromwell on Schumacher
"Mackenzie is another do anything player that we need. We plan to use Mackenzie at second base and potentially in the outfield. She has a swing that's already similar to an approach we like to take at the plate so we're looking forward to strengthening her swing even more. Mackenzie's desire to play at Fontbonne has been evident from the beginning of her recruiting process with us and we're just as excited to have her here."
Paez, an Incarnate Word graduate, had a dominant season for the Red Knights where she batted .506, to go along with her .560 on-base percentage, and .642 slugging percentage. She added 41 hits, 22 runs scored, and finished fifth on the team with 19 RBI.
Coach Cromwell on Paez
"Grace will play a vital role on the team next year behind the dish and at the plate. Grace is a force to be reckoned with and should make a big splash in the conference. She has a cool and calm demeanor that will help our pitching staff and a presence that will catch attention. She's been all Fontbonne since the beginning and we love that loyalty."
Joines joins the Griffins after graduating from Lawrenceville High School where she batted .365 and owned a .465 on-base percentage.
Coach Cromwell on Joines
"Sara is an extremely athletic and scrappy kid that would run through a fence to catch a ball. She not only has the athletic skills to help our program but she's a fantastic communicator who always stands out on the field. Sara will add depth to our middle infield or wherever else we end up needing her. We love Sara's grit and can't wait to see how she grows here."
