Team Stats
The Fontbonne University men's baseball team opened their 2013 season in dramatic fashion yesterday defeating Washington University 4-3. The Griffins scored all four runs with two out in the ninth inning to steal the victory.
Fontbonne trailed 2-0 heading into the ninth inning and after two quick outs, Washington University committed an error to extend the inning. The Griffins took full advantage by earning a walk and getting a single to load the bases. Junior Josh Taylor drove in the first run with a infield single and freshman Alex Hill provided a bases clearing double to centerfield to give Fontbonne a 4-2 lead.
Junior Dustin Graves allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth but then closed the door to pick up his first win on the mound for the Griffins. Jacob Becker started the game and went seven strong innings allowing five hits and one earned run.
The Griffins snapped a five-game losing streak to the Bears with their win yesterday.
