Another come-from-behind 9th inning victory for the Griffins!
St. Louis- Fontbonne baseball went 1-1 against Millikin yesterday in Jacksonville, IL. The Griffins struggled to produce runs during the first game.
After the first two innings Millikin led 3-0 until Millikin errors allowed Fontbonne to score their 1st two runs, unearned. After the 4th inning, Fontbonne led 4-3, but Millikin answered during the 6th, bringing in 4 more runs. Fontbonne tried to make a comeback and was within 2 before the Big Blue exploded with another 4 runs in the 7th and 5 more in the 8th to win 16-6.
Bolton won for Millikin and Andrew Schlereth suffered the loss for Fontbonne.
In game 2, Fontbonne was trailing 6-10 going into the 9th and finished the game in thrilling fashion, scoring 5 runs to win 11-10.
Cory Royer got the win for Fontbonne with the save going to Dustin Graves. Davidson suffered the loss for Millikin.
Millikin went through 3 pitchers in the 9th inning alone. The 9th started off with a single by Alex Hill immediately followed with a double by Matt Suda. Another single by Brett Freund gives him an RBI as Hill crosses the plate, with runners now at 2nd and 3rd after Freund advances on a passed ball. A single by Rob Berger adds another run as Suda crosses the plate, with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. A pitching change and strike out later, Sean Fisher doubles, recording 2 RBI's to tie the game at 10. Fisher then advances to 3rd on a wild pitch. A strike out and walk later, Fisher scores the winning run as Millikin's shortstop completes an error. The top of the 9th ended with a strikeout for the Griffins.
Bottom of the 9th went smoothly as Dustin Graves stepped up to the mound for Royer. The first batter struck out and the final two grounded out.
Fontbonne plays the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a doubleheader today beginning at 1:30pm at GCS Ballpark
