Griffins take two out three from Blackburn
The Fontbonne University men's baseball team won their second straight conference series taking two out three from Blackburn College this weekend. The Griffins improved to 8-13 overall and 4-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
On Saturday, in the first game of the doubleheader, senior Sean Fischer went 3-4 with three RBI's and a run scored to power Fontbonne to a 7-1 win. Junior Jacob Becker three a complete game to earn the victory. Becker allowed only one run while striking out four and walking just one. Freshman Jesse Schott went 2-4 from the plate while blasting his first collegiate home run.
In the nightcap, Fontbonne gave up five runs over the final two innings to fall to Blackburn 8-5. Fischer was 3-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
On Sunday, the Griffins broke open a close game by scoring five runs in the top of the eighth inning to cruise past Blackburn 9-3. Senior Matt Suda, Fischer and freshman Jason Klein had two RBI's apiece. Junior Jack Celesie picked up the win for Fontbonne going 2.2 innings in relief allowing no runs while giving up just four hits.
Fontbonne will return to the diamond tomorrow as they host Westminster College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
