Griffins sweep Eureka for sixth consecutive win
St. Louis- Fontbonne baseball swept Eureka College this weekend 13-1, 12-0 and 16-13. The wins take the Griffins' record to 11-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and 17-9 overall.
Fontbonne scored seven runs to open the series in the first inning on Saturday. Eureka's only run came in the sixth and was unearned. Ben Stratton went 4-4 with three RBI's. Alex Roedner finished game one with one hit of two tries, while waiting out two walks.Tanner Carter pitched five innings with seven strikeouts for the win.
The afternoon sun beat down on the Griffins who 10-run ruled Eureka in 7 innings during game two. Roedner hit two solo bombs over the left center wall, supporting the early game decision. Caleb Tatum pitched six innings to get the win. Dustin Graves finished the final inning.
Fontbonne led 12-3 in the sixth with a runner on third but a deep fly ball to center couldn't bring in the run. Eureka scored four runs in the seventh and the Griffins went scoreless for a 12-7 lead. Fontbonne scored four more runs in the eighth to lead 16-7 as the rain settled in. Eureka used the weather to their advantage, scoring two in the top of the ninth and crossing the plate four more times with two outs. Fontbonne was able to close out the 16-13 win despite the weather.
Berger hit 5-6 on the afternoon with Cale Laughlin striking our six batters in five innings to pick up the win.
