Louisville, Ky- Fontbonne baseball revenges their third contest against the Spalding University Golden Eagles today with an 11-8 win after falling 3-2 and 6-5 on Saturday after two walk off home runs.
Three Griffins were hitless during the first loss. Spalding scored two runs in the first and Fontbonne tied the game in the sixth inning. Spalding's West hit a double and the walk-off ninth inning home run. Zach Carel was the only Griffin to achieve more than one hit during game one. Matt Wallis' single brought in the two runs.
Spalding committed three errors, hit one double, one triple and one home run during game two. Both teams were tied at two after the first inning. Fontbonne went up 3-2 on a Carel sacrifice bunt. Spalding retaliated during the fourth for a 4-3 advantage over Fontbonne on a triple and sacrifice fly. With two outs, the Griffins scored two runs in the seventh, only to have Spalding tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Greenwell hit the second walk-off home run of the day for the Golden Eagles. Mosby allowed 10 hits, struck out four and didn't allow a walk in the win. Jacob Becker allowed eight hits, struck out one, and walked one in his six innings of work. Both pitchers allowed four earned runs. Cale Laughlin relieved Becker, picking up the loss, allowing two earned runs.
Trailing 5-7 to open the sixth, the Griffins scored five runs, cycling through the entire lineup that included five walks. Each team scored one run in the eighth for the final 11-8 score.
Fontbonne is now 21-14 on the season, with a 15-7 conference record.
Fontbonne travels to MacMurray Wednesday for a doubleheader, followed by two games against Webster at home on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 1pm. The Griffins play at Webster to end regular season conference competition on Sunday at 6pm.
